http://www.rte.ie/sport/soccer/english/2012/0330/315599-petrov-diagnosed-with-leukaemia/
Aston Villa captain Stiliyan Petrov has been diagnosed with acute leukaemia, the club confirmed in a statement this afternoon.
The condition was diagnosed following tests after the Bulgaria international, 32, developed a fever following last Saturday's defeat to Arsenal.
A club statement said: "We expect to learn more about Stiliyan's situation in due course and we have moved quickly to support him and his family.
"During this time we ask that Stiliyan's privacy is placed ahead of all inquiries and trust that we will share information as we receive it.
"Stiliyan is cherished by many and he will get from Villa every ounce of love and support that we have to help bring this to a positive conclusion."
Petrov's former Celtic team-mate and current Hoops manager Neil Lennon revealed his "absolute devastation" at the news.
Petrov spent seven years and won four Scottish Premier League titles at the Glasgow giants.
Lennon tweeted: "Absolutely inconsolable here regarding Stiliyan. He will overcome this like all the other barriers he faced in his life."

OMG
http://rhubarbgrumble.blogspot.co.uk/2012/04/tv-funnyman-alan-davies-is-set-to.html
TV funnyman Alan Davies is set to provoke a storm of protest for a foul-mouthed rant criticising Liverpool Football Club's refusal to play on the anniversary of the Hillsborough Disaster.
The Jonathan Creek and QI star made his shocking outburst during the latest edition of his popular podcast for Arsenal fans 'The Tuesday Club'.
The 46-year-old -- who once hit the headlines for biting a homeless man's ear in a drunken attack outside a swanky London club -- was discussing the dates of the forthcoming FA Cup semi-finals at Wembley.
Liverpool's clash with Merseyside rivals, Everton, takes place on Saturday, April 14th. Tottenham take on Chelsea the following day -- the 23rd anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster.
Liverpool refuse to play on April 15th as a show for respect for the ninety-six football fans who died in a crush at an FA Cup Semi Final at the stadium in Sheffield on that date in 1989.
But Davies seemed to care more about the fact that Liverpool's stance meant Chelsea were having to play their FA Cup tie only three days before their Champions League last-four clash with Barcelona.

Re: General football chat
It was not refusal to play first of all.
Last season or season before, was first time a game fell on that date, we requested a game change, and then there was an agreement with FA and UEFA that we would never play on 15/4. So he can fcuk off

Fulham Chairman Mohamed Al Fayed has spoken out by writing to both the Football Association and the Premier League, demanding, on behalf of all clubs, an immediate review of refereeing practices and the process of decision making.
Following the obvious penalty missed at Old Trafford on 26 March 2012 the Chairman felt compelled to outline, again, grievances felt regarding the entire operation surrounding the officiating of matches that are all too readily accepted by football’s governing bodies and wrote strong letters to both. However, the increasing inconsistencies and blatant errors made by Referees and officials at Premier League matches even more recently, has left the Chairman incensed.
Voicing his concerns of the costly mistakes that are happening all too frequently, he said: ‘The FA’s problem in addressing this pivotal situation is that it has too much power. Where else can decision-makers (referees) escape all responsibility to admit serious and blatant errors and have the protesters (the football clubs involved) fined on charges of misconduct?'
