Average rainfall for the month of October is 69mm.
Over the past 24 hours 87mm has fallen, bringing the total so far this month to 157mm - more than double the monthly average and four times more than fell in the entire month of October last year.

Re: The Weather
THE HEAVY RAINS last night led to a graveyard wall collapsing, leaving coffins exposed.
Keelin Murphy, who lives in apartments across from the burial ground at St Mary’s Abbey, just above Harbour Road in Howth, Dublin, told TheJournal.ie that she heard a loud bang at 9pm last night. She said:
It was lashing too hard to see what it was but when we woke up this morning, we could see two coffins had been exposed. Well they are quiet neighbours really… We laughed and thought, Happy Hallowe’en. What else can you do?
Murphy, who owns the Pangaea day spa in nearby Sutton, said that one of the coffins has burst open. Some gravestones had also subsided but, she said, hopefully families would not know who the coffins belonged to.
Fingal County Council confirmed to TheJournal.ie that the wall at St Mary’s Abbey had subsided. A spokesperson said:
FCC personnel attended the scene as a matter of urgency to investigate on site risks. Our first priority is to make the site safe and to cordon off the area taking into account difficult local access. Further information will be available once a site assessment has been carried out.
Murphy said that there is a concern that the apartments might have to be temporarily evacuated as there are old trees whose roots were exposed during the subsidence. The fear is that one of the trees could potentially fall on the apartments.
These are Keelin’s photographs of the sight that greeted her this morning:
