Toon chief: Carroll is worth 'f*** all'
Published 22:59 12/11/11 By Brian McNally (15) Recommend (5)
http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news...cle829815.html
Derek Llambias, the man who brokered the deal that made Andy Carroll the most expensive Englishman in football history, has sensationally claimed: “He’s worth f*** all!”

The Toon MD’s disparaging verdict on England striker Carroll (below) came when he was giving a group of Newcastle fans an insight into the £35million deal that took the England striker to Liverpool in January.

Llambias insists that Newcastle got the better of the deal.

The Anfield club’s first bid was £30m and Llambias told the fans: “I have to admit that £30m for Andy Carroll is a lot of money.”

When one supporter asked him “Is he worth £30m?” Llambias responded: “No — he’s worth f*** all.” He then explains that after rejecting the £30m offer, Newcastle refused to sell even for £35m unless Liverpool paid the entire fee up front.

A move that forced Liverpool to ask Chelsea to increase their first instalment of the £50m they had already agreed to pay for Fernando Torres!

Llambias explained: “It is about control.

“We had the control. We knew the Torres deal was there.

“We drew that f****** deal, perhaps the ultimate.

“So £30m? F*** off! Don’t waste my time and I slammed the phone down.

“£35m? Everybody including Pardew [manager Alan Pardew] all agreed.

“But the £35m they wanted to pay over four years. It was rubbish. Mike (Ashley) said — and he is a brave boy Mike I promise you — get all the £35m up front.

“We got it all up front and then they never paid us on time and we charged them 12 grand f****** interest.”

and he's their MD? Shocked What a shocking statement from someone that is supposed to represent management at a football club.

What alarms me more is the fact our money upfront was dependent on us getting more upfront from Chelsea for Torres.

He says nothing about making him hand in transfer request, although could have been to save on bonus.

@Barnes, I agree, but maybe it was a negotiation strategy

Andy: "Kenny has shown a lot of faith in me.'' "I haven't had the greatest season but he has stuck by me and defended me. He has encouraged me a lot and has a lot of belief in me. "I'm confident of doing well all the time. It's not just the last two games I have played well in. To be honest, I feel I've done well in other games. But it's not just me, it's the team. Four different players scored against Chelsea, and that shows it is a team effort." "The fans were great [against Chelsea]. Losing at the weekend, I didn't know what it would be like, but from the minute we kicked off, it was fantastic. It felt great to hear them singing my name, and I just can't wait for next season now."

Awwww.

Hoping and praying his current form will continue into next season, maybe even get called for the Euros.

Hammer blow: We'd have built a team around Carroll reveals Sullivan

'It was a terribly expensive deal that would have blown our budget for years and his wages were enormous - too much for a club like ours - but, as the manager really wanted him, we were prepared to pay it'

David Sullivan has revealed the truth about West Ham's £17million bid to sign Andy Carroll.

The Mirror revealed last month that the east Londoners were prepared to back Sam Allardyce by splashing out a staggering £100,000 a week to lure Liverpool striker Carroll to Upton Park.

Sullivan has confirmed Big Sam was desperate to build his team for the new season around the England striker.

The West Ham co-owner also admits Big Sam wanted Wolves winger Matt Jarvis - for whom the Hammers have had a £6million turned down - to provide the ammunition for Carroll.

Sullivan said: "I can only talk about this because it has been put in the public domain already.

"My manager wanted Andy Carroll, so we backed him.

"Andy was the perfect player for him and the style of football we play.

"We play a lot of high balls, a lot of crosses - quite exciting football, not just humping it but clever crossing - and Sam wanted Jarvis to supply the crosses because he is a fantastic crosser.

"We had a deal in place with Liverpool to borrow the player which automatically became a purchase if we stayed up.

"We hoped, as he had the same agent as our manager - a man we had done a lot of business with - and he was very friendly with Kevin Nolan, our captain, that Andy would want to come.

"But he really wants to stay at Liverpool. He believes that he will get back into the side by his performances - coming off the bench or for the reserves. He believes the manager will have to put him back in the side.

"But it's wrong to discuss what is in his mind. Only he knows that."

Carroll has been tipped for a move back to hometown club Newcastle, but Sullivan said: "We were paying all of his wages and a huge loan fee. Newcastle didn't even want to pay all of his wages.

"This is what we are led to believe. So Liverpool were not prepared to let him go to Newcastle. But it may all change. Who knows?"

Sullivan has since snapped up midfielder Alou Diarra for around £3million and admitted the funds earmarked for Carroll are now being used elsewhere.

He added: "It was a terribly expensive deal with the loan fee and with his wages, which were enormous - too much for a club like ours.

"But, as the manager really wanted him, we were prepared to pay it.

"Then there was a huge transfer fee which would have blown our budget for several years.

"So, as we buy players, the door shuts."
