Liverpool have revealed forward Iago Aspas will miss up to five weeks after sustaining a thigh injury in training.

The Spaniard confirmed on his Twitter page that he had suffered an injury in training on Thursday afternoon, intimating that he would be out of action for five weeks.

A short time later the Reds issued an update on his condition.

“Liverpool Football Club today confirmed that Spanish forward Iago Aspas has suffered a torn thigh muscle in training,” a statement on the Liverpool website read.

“The 26-year-old picked up the injury at Melwood on Thursday and has subsequently been assessed by the Reds’ medical staff.

“He is expected to be available for a return by the beginning of December – a month which includes seven Barclays Premier League fixtures for Brendan Rodgers’ team.”

Aspas joined Liverpool from Celta Vigo in the summer, but he has yet to make an impact at Anfield, and recently hinted that he would look for a move away from the club to secure first-team football.

Merseyside reporter Dominic King on Daily Mail reports:

Philippe Coutinho is targeting Liverpool's trip to Arsenal on November 2 as a point to re-start his season.

The Brazil midfielder has been out since damaging his shoulder at Swansea in the middle of September but is aiming to step up his rehabilitation programme this week and has started training with Liverpool's physio.

D_Sturridge
Keeping the faith. I'm pushing myself to be better than before the injury. God willing a quick recovery and I'll be back playing soon! I'm gutted right now man, keeping it real. Thanks for all the kind words. To all my fans thanks for the support. Means a lot to me. Daniel.
