Re: This Season's Injuries
BRENDAN RODGERS has ruled out a return to action for Liverpool FC defender Martin Kelly before the end of the season.
The 22-year-old England international has started training again following the anterior cruciate ligament injury he suffered against Manchester United back in September.
However, the Reds boss, who demonstrated his faith in Kelly by handing him a new contract in February, intends to adopt a cautious approach with the Academy graduate.
“Martin is working very hard and making good progress,” Rodgers said.
“He is in between the training group and the rehab group.
“But there’s no point in rushing him back at this stage of the season.
“There are no thoughts for Martin to play between now and the end of the season.
“We just have to make sure we get him back fully fit and the objective was always to get him ready for pre-season.
“He’s a player who did very well when he played at the start of the season.
“He has shown his talent and it will be a boost to have him back in the squad for next season.”
Raheem Sterling, who has been hampered by a thigh problem since last month’s victory at Aston Villa, has responded well to treatment.
The teenage winger is back training and could still have a part to play over the remaining four games against Newcastle, Everton, Fulham and Queens Park Rangers.
His Liverpool manager Rodgers: “It’s only been a precaution with Raheem. With him being so young, we’re protecting him.”

James Pearce says LFC have received positive news regarding Kolo's injury and he's yet to concede defeat in his battle to be fit for UTD
Re: This Season's Injuries
"His injury is nowhere near as bad as what we thought," said the manager. "We'll just assess that over the next 24/48 hours.
"I think we were all thinking that he might be out for longer after the game, but he's made an excellent recovery. The diagnosis isn't anywhere near as bad as we thought, so we'll see how he is for this weekend.
"If it's not this weekend, then we would think that after the international break he will not be too far away."
The boss was also quizzed about the fitness of midfielder Joe Allen after he too was forced to leave the field in the cup encounter due to a hamstring problem.
"With Joe, likewise, it was only a grade one strain, so he maybe doubtful for the weekend," said Rodgers. "But certainly after the international break he'll be fine."
Liverpool's new signing Aly Cissokho was substituted after just nine minutes of his home debut after picking up a knock on his ankle.
Rodgers said: "Cissokho will be slightly different [to Toure and Allen]. He could be out for four to six weeks, which is a blow because he came in and trained really well last week.
"He's on crutches at the moment and we'll just look at that over the coming weeks. But he certainly won't be available [for the Manchester United game]."
Re: This Season's Injuries
Liverpool have confirmed that Glen Johnson suffered a high ankle sprain during Sunday's 1-0 victory over Manchester United at Anfield.
The defender was forced to withdraw from the England squad after sustaining the injury.
After being examined by the club's medical staff at Melwood, Johnson is required to rest his ankle this week.
A further review will then take place to check stability and decide on further management.
Therefore, Liverpool have not put a time frame on Johnson's return to fitness at this stage.

Re: This Season's Injuries
Sturridge was forced to sit out the internationals against Moldova and Ukraine because of a thigh injury which leaves him playing in pain.
The 24-year-old said he was playing at “75 per cent” fitness in his last Premier League game against Manchester United, and could barely shoot. He scored the winning goal with a glancing header, but was visibly struggling in the latter stages of that fixture.
Sturridge joined the England squad and was assessed by the medical staff in the days following that victory, when it was established that the recovery time was too short to allow him to face Moldova or travel with Roy Hodgson’s squad to Kiev.
However, there will have been two weeks of treatment on Merseyside for Sturridge before travelling to Swansea for the televised fixture on Monday, so Liverpool are optimistic he will be able to face Michael Laudrup’s side.
No doubt questions will be asked as to why Sturridge may feature for his club after missing two such important games for his country, but Liverpool will argue that it was always possible the player could recover after a two-week period of rest and rehabilitation in between games.
Hodgson acknowledged publicly that there was no chance of Sturridge training and performing to the necessary levels for his country if he had been with the England squad, and would have risked aggravating the problem.
A final decision on the striker’s availability for the Welsh trip is not expected until the weekend. Liverpool are desperate for him to be available, not only because he has made such a fine start to the season – scoring in all four competitive games – but also because he remains the focal point of the current league leaders’ attack in the absence of Luis Suárez.

For one game then Suarez will fit in there cause no way he displaces Sturridge from C/F spot.
