Brendan Rodgers has confirmed Liverpool are hoping to conduct further incoming transfer business before the close of the January transfer window.

The Reds have already added Daniel Sturridge to the ranks since the turn of the year, and the boss is hopeful he won't be the only new face amongst the squad by the time the window shuts.

"We'll see what happens over the course of the next few weeks," Rodgers told reporters at Melwood.

"Daniel was our main priority and we'll have to see what else is available.

"There's no doubt we need to support the group. We had 20 players training this morning, of which some of those are our younger players, so we know we need to reinforce and top up the group. That's something we'll look to do.

"If we can do it then great and if not, then we'll wait until the summer."

Asked about the speculation linking Inter Milan playmaker Wesley Sneijder with the Reds, Rodgers replied: "You could probably rattle off about 20 names and the answer would be the same. The club have been linked with a whole host of players, but I couldn't see that happening.

Liverpool have made their second move of the January transfer window with an £8m bid for the Internazionale midfielder Philippe Coutinho, though they may have to improve their offer to tempt the Italian club to sell.

Brendan Rodgers has turned his attentions to the 20-year-old, who has one senior cap for Brazil, having grown frustrated with Liverpool's prolonged attempts to agree a fee with Blackpool for Tom Ince. Inter have rejected Liverpool's opening offer for Coutinho but negotiations are expected to continue.

The Brazilian emerged amid much fanfare at Vasco da Gama and signed for Inter for €4m aged 16, though he remained in Brazil on loan until 2010. Coutinho has made only 28 league appearances for Inter, however, and spent the second half of last season on loan at Espanyol.

He has become frustrated with a lack of opportunity at San Siro and Liverpool are hopeful of adding the talented midfielder to the £12m signing of Daniel Sturridge before the end of the transfer window.

Could be best for Pepe himself but I'd rather he stayed

Pepe is the last of the Rafa era, he has seen all the rest come and go, you couldnt begrudge him a move back home but ultimately the decision lies with him and his family. I hope he stays myself.
