Toronto FC announced that it has granted permission to goalkeeper Stefan Frei to train with English Premier League (EPL) club, Liverpool FC. Frei, who travelled to the United Kingdom earlier this week, has already started his training stint with the storied EPL club.
"This is a great opportunity for Stefan and we were happy to give him permission to train with a historic club like Liverpool," said Toronto FC Head Coach and Technical Director Aron Winter. "He has emerged as one of the top keepers in the league since the start of his career and has certainly earned this special opportunity."

Frei, 25, just completed his third season in Major League Soccer, all with Toronto FC, who drafted the Swiss keeper 13th overall in the 2009 MLS SuperDraft. This season, Frei made 27 league appearances earning six shutouts. He also appeared in all four of Toronto's Nutrilite Canadian Championship matches, helping the club win its third straight national title.

Frei's training period with Liverpool FC will conclude on Sunday December 18

Kenny Dalglish has reiterated his unwavering belief that Liverpool's strikeforce are on the verge of a goal-fest.

The Reds once again created a raft of chances at the weekend but found QPR stopper Radek Cerny in inspired form during the 1-0 victory over Neil Warnock's men.

Dalglish was delighted with the overall performance of his charges and is confident they are still moving in the right direction.

"We did miss some chances, yes, but the goalkeeper saved a lot of them too," said Dalglish.

"Do I feel the need to go out and do something about that? Aye, whichever side comes along here next, we'll ask them to come without a 'keeper. That's the best way to do it, isn't it?

"Irrespective of what I say, it's not going to stop speculation we are going out in January to sign Joe Bloggs up front, or whoever. I don't need to say anything.

"For us it was a fantastic team performance. We are quite happy.

"I trust the players implicitly when it comes to scoring, implicitly.

"They continued to get in there on goal, and even with the 'keeper having a good day, they didn't drop their heads. They must be enjoying what they are doing, to continue playing like that, and creating chances like that.

"One day, creating chances like that, we are going to get a load...or we are going to be garbage, and win 1-0. And I think that will do us."

He added: "I think some of the football we played in the first half was brilliant, and we won't change our beliefs or the way we play.

"That's why we brought the players here in the first place, and we will stick to those principles.

"Our performance was fantastic, and the only thing missing was the goals that confirm that.

"If you look at home performances they have been fantastic, look at points...maybe not. There is not a game we have played here that we couldn't have won, we shouldn't have won.

"The goalkeepers that have come here have done very well for their sides...I'm saying that again. Performance wise, we don't have any problem whatsoever, goals - yeah, we'd love more, and we'll get more

Liverpool will tonight discover their opponents for the FA Cup 3rd round clash at Anfield.

Oldham Athletic and Southend United meet in a Boundary Park replay with the winners earning the big carrot of a trip to L4.

Latics boss Paul Dickov said: "We know what the carrot is for winning and personally I should not have to say anything before the game.

"The lads have a put in a massive effort in recent weeks and I expect the same against Southend.

"We know it will be a tough game, but there is a real determination amongst them."

Southend have lost their last two games having previously gone on a club record 17 match unbeaten run, and their Scottish boss Paul Sturrock would relish a clash against his old friend Kenny Dalglish.

Liverpool midfielder Jonjo Shelvey has won November's Young Player of the Month award, after impressing during a loan spell at Championship side Blackpool.

The 19-year-old returned to Anfield after scoring six goals in 10 games for the Tangerines, and hopes to force his way into the plans of Reds boss Kenny Dalglish in the second half of the season.
